You can teach English to young people across the UK who can't get specialist EAL support locally - none of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced online EAL and ESOL tutors in Hampshire, £25 - £30 per hour, for one-to-one remote sessions with vulnerable children and young people - including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) - who need English quickly to access their education.
What you get
- Work from home: Fully remote.
- Flexible schedule: Most placements are a few sessions a week (time-limited part-time engagements), with more hours sometimes available. Work not guaranteed; you choose your placements.
- Tes CPD access: Unlimited Tes professional development library, plus our own CPD offerings.
- Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors.
- Community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a real tutor community.
How we work
We meet each young person where they are - paced to the learner, child-led. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed teaching that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools.
Day to day
- One-to-one online EAL or ESOL tuition to children aged 4-18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
- Sessions typically 1-2 hours via secure video, usually within school hours; often the same learner for months.
- Learners are usually young people new to the UK, or longer-resident learners whose English is below the level they need for school. Some have additional SEMH, ADHD, ASC, or other SEND needs.
- Per-session reports supported by templates and your Support Specialist.
You'll need
- Experience: 2+ years' teaching English as a second or additional language, ideally with young learners and some online experience.
- Qualification: CELTA, DELTA, TEFL, TESOL, or QTS with EAL specialism, or an equivalent English-language teaching qualification.
- Subjects: EAL, ESOL, ESL, or EFL with school-age learners.
- Safeguarding: It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Tech setup: Reliable broadband, a working webcam, and a quiet space to teach.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this), two professional references, and UK-based with right to work in the UK.
