SEN / SEND Teacher, Cheshire

You can be the teacher who plans around the learner, not a scheme of work - the teacher a vulnerable young person actually needs. None of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced SEND teachers in Cheshire, £28 - £35 per hour, for one-to-one work with children and young people who haven't been served by mainstream provision.

What you get

  • Flexible schedule: Most placements are a few sessions a week (time-limited part-time engagements), with more hours sometimes available. Work not guaranteed; you choose your placements.
  • Work from home: Planning, prep, and reporting from home; hybrid placements available.
  • Tes CPD access: Unlimited Tes professional development library, plus our own SEMH-focused CPD.
  • Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors.
  • Community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a community of fellow teachers and tutors.

How we work

We meet each young person where they are - engagement before attainment, child-led. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed teaching that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools across the UK.

Day to day

  • One-to-one teaching in English, Maths, or Science to children aged 4-18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
  • Sessions typically 1-2 hours, in-person - often in the home, sometimes in school, occasionally hybrid, usually within school hours.
  • Most learners have SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs; many have been out of school for some time.
  • Per-session reports supported by templates and your SEND Support Specialist.

You'll need

  • Experience: 2+ years' teaching or tutoring, including substantial hands-on work with SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs.
  • Qualification: QTS or QTLS, or an equivalent specialist teaching qualification.
  • Subjects: Confidence teaching English, Maths, or Science at one or more Key Stages.
  • Safeguarding: It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this) and two professional references.
  • Right to work: UK-based with right to work in the UK.

Invoicing and payments

Paid monthly via an auto-generated invoice you approve in our tutor portal.

Applying

  • Apply in under 5 minutes via our mobile-optimised form.
  • We interview on a rolling basis and respond to successful applicants within 2 weeks.
  • Safer recruitment applies; we welcome tutors from every background and want our network to reflect the communities our learners come from.
  • Our referral / introducer scheme pays a fee to anyone who recommends a tutor who goes on to complete a first lesson.

You may have worked as

Mainstream classroom teacher, SEND Teacher, SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), Special Needs Teacher, Intervention Teacher, Alternative Provision Teacher, Reintegration Teacher, Pastoral Lead, or Inclusion Coordinator - including Maths, English or Science teachers with SEND experience.

Not a permanent or salaried position; you are not an employee of Targeted Provision. Self-employed, freelance contract for services.
