You can help a young person new to the UK access everything school has to offer - none of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced EAL and ESOL tutors in Cambridgeshire, £25 - £30 per hour, for one-to-one work with vulnerable children and young people - including recent arrivals and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) - who need English quickly to access the rest of their education.
What you get
- Flexible schedule: Most placements are a few sessions a week (time-limited part-time engagements), with more hours sometimes available. Work not guaranteed; you choose your placements.
- Work from home: Planning, prep, and reporting from home; hybrid placements available.
- Tes CPD access: Unlimited Tes professional development library, plus our own CPD offerings.
- Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors.
- Community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a community of fellow tutors.
How we work
We meet each young person where they are - paced to the learner, child-led. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed teaching that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools across the UK.
Day to day
- One-to-one EAL or ESOL tuition to children aged 4-18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
- Sessions typically 1-2 hours, in-person - often in the home, sometimes in school, occasionally hybrid, usually within school hours.
- Learners are usually vulnerable young people new to the UK - including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) - or longer-resident young people whose English is below the level they need for school. Some will have additional SEMH, ADHD, ASC, or other SEND needs.
- Per-session reports supported by templates and your Support Specialist.
You'll need
- Experience: 2+ years' teaching English as a second or additional language, ideally with young learners.
- Qualification: CELTA, DELTA, TEFL, TESOL, or QTS with EAL specialism, or an equivalent English-language teaching qualification.
- Subjects: EAL, ESOL, ESL, or EFL with school-age learners.
- Safeguarding: It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this) and two professional references.
- Right to work: UK-based with right to work in the UK.
